Ingredients

  • 500 g 4 cups bread flour
  • 7 g 2 ¼ tsp instant yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 300 ml 1 ¼ cups warm water
  • 25 g 2 tbsp unsalted butter or lard

Add Ingredients to the Bread Machine

  • Pour warm water into the bread machine pan, followed by flour, sugar, and salt.
  • Make a small well in the flour and add the yeast.
  • Add the butter or lard on top.
  • Select the dough cycle (about 90 minutes).

Check Dough Consistency

  • After 10 minutes of kneading, check the dough:
  • Too dry? Add 1 tbsp of water.
  • Too sticky? Sprinkle extra flour.

Shape & Rest the Dough

  • Remove the dough from the bread machine.
  • Shape it into a round, flat disc (1-1.5 inches thick).
  • Dock the surface with a fork.
  • Let it rest for 30 minutes at room temperature.

Bake the Stottie Cake

  • Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
