Puff Pastry:
- 1 sheet of store-bought puff pastry thawed
- 1 tablespoon of flour for dusting
Filling:
- 1 cup of cooked chicken breast shredded or finely chopped
- ½ cup of shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese
- ¼ cup of cream cheese or béchamel sauce
- 1 small onion finely chopped
- 1 garlic clove minced
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil or butter
- ½ teaspoon of paprika
- ½ teaspoon of dried thyme or oregano
- Salt and black pepper to taste
For the Top:
- 1 egg yolk beaten with 1 tablespoon of milk (for egg wash)
Prepare the Filling:
Heat olive oil or butter in a pan over medium heat.
Sauté the onion until soft, then add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
Stir in the shredded chicken, paprika, thyme, salt, and pepper.
Reduce the heat to low and mix in the shredded cheese and cream cheese. Cook until melted and combined. Set aside to cool.
Roll Out the Puff Pastry:
Assemble the Jalousie:
Lay one sheet of puff pastry on a parchment-lined baking tray.
Spread the cooled chicken and cheese filling evenly across the center, leaving a ½-inch border.
Place the second pastry sheet on top. Seal the edges with a fork and make diagonal slits on the top for venting.
Bake the Jalousie:
Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
For extra flavor, you can add sautéed mushrooms, spinach, or roasted red peppers to the filling.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven for the best texture.
